TernPro features ComePlayDetroit's Broomball League!

TernPro takes it to the ice during ComePlayDetroit's Broomball League!

TernPro partnered with ComePlayDetroit to capture the awesomeness that is Detroit Broomball.  ComePlayDetroit is Detroit's largest provider of recreational sports leagues for adults, and an amazing organization for participating in fun, active events and leagues throughout the year.  And for those of you that aren't familiar with Broomball, it is kind of like floor hockey on ice. Lots of fun and lots of bruises!  We strapped a few GoPros on players and the referee and shot footage from the game itself.  Check out the video:

If you are in the Detroit Metro Area and are interested in signing up for ComePlayDetroit leagues, sign up HERE!

ComePlayDetroit's video was made using the TernPro Event Video Package, which is perfect for capturing the best moments of any active event from the perspective of your participants.

TernPro visits the trampoline park!

TernPro visits the trampoline park!

The TernPro Team took a Saturday to capture some GoPro footage in a trampoline park.  The result: Awesome!  Check out our highlights below:

Trampoline Basketball Dunk City

This is my favorite part of the trampoline park.  You can fly like an NBA player and finally dunk like you have always wanted. (Please ignore the 5 year old girl making attempts on the higher rim next to me)

 Basketball Dunk with GoPro

Trampoline Dodgeball

Another TernPro Team favorite (especially Dan Bloom).  We took on at least 30 little kids in an epic dodgeball match that rivaled Billy Madison.  These kids have no fear.

Trampoline Arena

As you can see in the video, the trampoline arena is a great place to feel like a kangaroo.  Be wary of people like Brian (below) flying around the arena though, only one person per trampoline!

Trampoline Foam Pit

You can pretty much flip any way you want on your way into the foam pit.  I went headfirst and sunk all the way to the bottom.  The hardest part is getting out!

If you ever have the opportunity to act like a kid again at a trampoline park, take it!

Basketball with a GoPro

Most people think of using GoPro cameras during extreme sports, like skiing, skydiving, or surfing, but this little wearable camera can be used during almost any activity.  Sports of all kinds are starting to take advantage of the unique viewpoint GoPro cameras offer for highlights, coaching, and recreational videos.  Here are some fun ways the TernPro Team used a GoPro during my favorite activity, basketball! (Note: the following rims may or may not be the standard 10ft height)

3 Ways To Give Back While Exploring

3 Ways To Give Back While Exploring

Giving back when you explore is about contributing to socially and environmentally conscious projects as you discover amazing new people and places. The best part? Giving back makes for a more memorable and meaningful experience that leaves you feeling more connected.  Here are 3 organizations that allow you to explore the world while giving back to local communities and environments.

The Earthwatch Institute

The Earthwatch Institute is a non-profit organization founded in 1971 and has provided opportunities for over 93,000 volunteers to conduct scientific research in the field. Earthwatch is the leader in the field of volunteer science programs and participatory environmental research tourism. Earthwatch’s mission, “is to engage people worldwide in scientific field research and education in order to promote the understanding and action necessary for a sustainable environment”.

Leatherback Sea Turtle Expedition

Protecting Leatherbacks on the beach in Trinidad

Favorite Expedition: Cheetah Conservation in Namibia

This expedition is located at Eland's Joy, a 7,000-hectare (17,000-acre) working farm and headquarters of the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). As a volunteer, you assist CCF staff in the day-to-day work associated with ongoing research, conservation, and education programs both in the field and on the farm. You'll survey wildlife from vehicles and from a hide at a water hole; help care for cheetahs, dogs, sheep, and goats; and enter research data in the CCF database. You may also have a chance to aid CCF staff with radio tracking and monitoring of free-living cheetahs.  I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Laurie Marker, the Founder of CCF, and her commitment to the environmental well being of Eland's Joy is inspiring.

Global Vision International

Global Vision International (GVI) was founded in 1997 as a for profit organization with the purpose to,“provide support and services to international charities, non-profits and governmental agencies, through volunteering opportunities, internship programs, training and direct funding”. GVI recruits volunteers to help with environmental research, conservation, education, and community development. GVI partners with a number of NGOs and corporations, most notably the South African National Parks Board, Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, Jane Goodall Institute, Rainforest Concern and Kenyan Wildlife Service. GVI’s program portfolio includes over 100 projects in 40 countries with focuses on teaching, healthcare, construction, sports, wildlife and terrestrial conservation, marine conservation, and climate change.

Tracking Jaguars in Costa Rica

Tracking Jaguars on the beach in Tortuguero National Park, Costa Rica

Favorite Expedition: Jaguar Conservation in Costa Rica

As a volunteer, you will be searching for signs of jaguars and their prey species by setting up remote cameras and surveying a 16-mile stretch of turtle nesting beach. Relaying data to the Costa Rican government and other prominent conservation organizations, this expedition aids the conservation effort through monitoring and tracking on Costa Rica’s beautiful Caribbean coast in the Tortuguero National Park.  I was able to spend 10 weeks participating in this expedition, and although the conditions are difficult, the wildlife and ecosystem around base camp is incredible.

Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation

Adventurers and Scientists for Conservation is dedicated to improving the accessibility of scientific knowledge through partnerships between outdoor enthusiasts and scientists.  This organization believes that it is only through true scientific understanding of the perils facing an area that management decisions should be made. Because the collection of data can be expensive, time consuming, and physically challenging, ASC partners with adventure athletes who constantly travel to areas of great need to collect scientific data for research scientists.  Gregg Treinish, the Founder of ASC, has an amazing story as an explorer wanting to contribute to the conservation of the environment.

Cruising through the Detroit Auto Show (GIFs included)

North American International Auto Show Review

The TernPro Team went on an adventure this weekend to the North American International Auto Show to check out the latest and greatest in the auto industry.  With over 500 vehicles on display, we experienced North America's largest and most prestigious automotive showcase, right here in the Motor City.  Personally, I am not a car enthusiast, but Brentt, who spends his free time hunting down original muscle car parts as he rebuilds a 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400, dragged me around to see some amazing displays of design and engineering.  Here are some of our best and most interesting discoveries along the way in the jam packed Cobo Center.

Honda FCEV Concept Car

Not bad Honda!   Definitely not the Civic my parents had when I was in high school.

Ford Focus Racing Game

Not the car I would get too excited about racing, but this immersive game was pretty awesome.

Ford Focus Auto Show Game

Lincoln

This was the coolest thing in the Lincoln display.  I probably watched it for 15 minutes.

Lincoln Auto Show Display

Toyota FT-1

Brentt was really excited about the FT-1 sports car concept Toyota introduced at this year's auto show.  I thought it was really cool until it took 3 minutes to spin around the display while I was boxing out over eager car fans to get this gif.

Toyota FT-1 Concept

Toyota i-Road

The i-Road! Definitely a fan favorite.  It only has 3 wheels!

Toyota i-Road

The Winner: Chevrolet Corvette C7R

The Chevy display last year stole my heart with the Corvette Stingray, and it was again my favorite this year.  I would love to put a GoPro on this 2014 Corvette C7R and take it out for a test drive.

The Best GoPro Camera Mounts for Skiing

Wearable GoPro cameras are the best way to capture your adventures on the slopes, but most people only mount their camera on their helmet (which can lead to a lot of long, boring footage).  Good GoPro mounts provide you with a variety of angles that give you a unique perspective on every jump, turn, flip, or whatever else you can do on your skis.  Here are the best 3 ways to mount your GoPro camera to capture the best footage.

Chesty Mount

The Chesty Mount is a harness worn around your torso, and the camera faces forward at chest level. Because the camera is mounted to the chest, your arms, poles, and skis can all be seen while you are skiing. This makes the viewer feel like they are fully immersed in the action.  Bonus: because your torso is steadier than the rest of your body, the footage is smooth and steady.

Pole Mount

The Pole Mount attaches to your ski pole, and the camera can either face forward, upward facing you, or backward facing behind you.  Try each angle to experiment with the different types of footage you can capture.  Because the camera is on your ski pole (that is moving in all directions), you can get great shots of yourself and everything going on around you. Bonus: you can hold the pole out away from you and get amazing footage of yourself with the mountain as your backdrop.  GoPro selfies!

Ski Mount

The Ski Mount attaches to your ski tip with a sticky mount, and the camera faces up at you.  Because the camera is at ground level, this mount option gives you a unique upward perspective as you glide down the slopes. Bonus: if there is a lot of powder, you can get some incredible footage of yourself through clouds of snow.

With these unique GoPro camera mount options, you can be sure that your ski adventure video will stand out from the boring, long, monotonous helmet mounted videos you see all the time.  Now go out and show the world your skills!

Check out how you can try out new mounts and make an awesome video yourself using the TernPro Event Video Package!

Why the Name TernPro?

The Arctic Tern is by no means the largest, the fastest, or even the smartest of birds. Nor is it the most well known. But the Arctic Tern does have one very important characteristic: Arctic Terns have the longest yearly migratory pattern of any animal in the world. Every year, Arctic Terns traverse 25,000 miles as they spend summers breeding in the North Pole, and winters molting in Antarctica. Arctic Terns see the majority of the world in its travels, and while we love the symbolism of world traveler, what we find most compelling is the can-do, never-say-die, bad-ass attitude that is wired into the DNA of these over-achieving birds. It would be easy to migrate from the Northeast to Florida, like geese, or grandma, but the Arctic Tern only knows, and seeks out the longest and the hardest migration available.

We want to help the Arctic Terns of the world remember their adventures and experiences in a unique way. Whether you’re taking your first excursion or you live your life like an Arctic Tern, TernPro can help you capture the moments that you want to remember, and turn them into awesome videos (read: memories) that are easy to share and enjoy.

An average aged Arctic Tern will travel 1.5 million miles in its lifetime. Not too shabby for animals that weigh 4 ounces and don’t have opposable thumbs! We’re not saying that more miles equals more awesome, but we are saying, “Get out there!!!” And hey, while you’re at it, you might as well take a TernPro Bundle with you. When you get back we will make you an awesome video to help you remember your favorite moments.

Our work is inspired by the wanderlust of Arctic Terns, but our product is made for humans.

Awesome videos that capture your adventures.

TernPro.
